A New Research! Fasting Can Rebuild Your Immune System!

According to a new study, fasting isn’t so detrimental to our health as many people previously thought. Instead, experts recommend short 3-day fasts in order to boost your defenses and prevent a variety of diseases and conditions.

In the past, fasting has been put under a lot of scrutiny, and we have to agree. Long-running fasts can have a negative effect on our health, but short ones offer numerous health benefits and are highly recommended. 3-day fasts have shown that they can boost the production of white blood cells, effectively protecting your health from a variety of problems. As we get older, our immune system gets significantly weaker, but luckily, now there’s a simple method that can help.

Short-running fasts can help chemotherapy patients recover

Chemotherapy does save thousands of lives every year, but it does so at a high cost. Chemotherapy patients often suffer from severely weakened immune system and are more prone to infections afterwards.

The study on short fasts discovered that the process essentially “flips a switch” in our body which makes the stem cells produce new white blood cells, which regenerates the immune system. Valter Longo, one of the leaders of the study, says that the same process can eventually be used to regrow tissues. “It works by giving the “green light” to the stem cells to proceed with the creation of new white blood cells. During the process, the immune system gets rid of its old parts and regrows itself, which means that you’re essentially getting a new immune system,” Longo says.

During the first stage of the study, the participants fasted for 2-4 days over a period of 6 months. Besides regrowing their immune system, the process also reduced the levels of the PKA enzyme and the risk of cancer. Additionally, the short fasts also helped the body break down old white blood cells.

“We were never aware of the fact how beneficial short fasts can be. When the body is starved, the system conserves energy and recycles the parts of the immune system it doesn’t need, at the same time regenerating itself, which results in a completely new immune system,” Longo says. The process, as he hopes, may become a base for a cure for numerous serious diseases in the future.
